Sabbath – Rest in Creation
July 9, 2023
We started a series called “The Conquest for Rest’ today, and our elder Andy preached from Genesis 1:1 – 2:3 We learn that God worked to create a beautiful world out of nothingness. He brought order and beauty from chaos. This teaches us that work is good and that we have the opportunity to reflect God’s image through our work. On the other hand, God also rested. He didn’t need rest in the same way we do, but He rested to delight in His creation and to show us the importance of rest. Rest is a gift and something we should nurture. The day of rest is meant to be holy and set apart, contrary to what the world tells us. We should follow God’s example and prioritize rest in our lives. When was the last time you truly stopped and allowed yourself to rest? If you find it difficult to stop working, perhaps you’re trying to prove your worth to others or afraid to ask for help. Remember the God we serve, who created us for both work and rest. At GCC, one of our missions is to find rest in Jesus in the midst of this busy city filled with non-stop entertainment and a fast-paced lifestyle. Let us embrace the gift of rest and prioritize it, recognizing that rest is not a sign of weakness but a source of renewal and connection with God.
