A Greater One

Last Sunday, in our 10 verses text of Hebrews 7:1-10, we saw the author explain very thoroughly about the greatness of Melchizedek, even over the priesthood of the Levites. He was so superior that he blessed Abraham and Abraham paid a tithe to him. This passage shows us that the Old Testament is not outdated or lacking in solid lessons and teachings. It is in fact crucial in our learning about the greatness of Jesus. The author of Hebrews is teaching us about Jesus through the lens of the OT. This passage going in depth about Melchizedek helps us prepare for the total unpacking of Jesus’ high priesthood which is eternal, and is superior to everyone else’s – even Melchizedek’s!
